Eco or Environmental certification is a voluntary environmental regulation and development where a plantation/farm or company chooses to comply with predefined processes or objectives (Standards) set forth by the certification service. Many certification services have a logo (commonly known as an ecolabel) which can be applied to products certified under their standards. A form of Corporate Social Responsibility, this allows companies to address their obligation to minimise the harmful impacts to the environment and be socially proactive by voluntarily following a set of externally set objectives that are evaluated by a third-party and certified.
