Summary

A cooperation among Chatham University, Pittsburgh; Juniata College, Huntingdon; Moravian College, Bethlehem; Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove; Washington and Jefferson College, Washington in Pennsylvania; and Drew University, Madison, New Jersey. KSAC was founded to develop and sustain study away programs through collaboration among like institutions.

KSAC programs currently include a spring semester program in the Gambia, a new program in India, and a semester-long environmental studies program at Juniata's Raystown Field Station.

Objectives

We explore the field of natural and social sciences with an emphasis on issues of sustainable development. Courses are designed to provide students academic cum experiential learning opportunities. Students learn how to apply science skills in conjunction with a concern for local communities and their needs. In addition, the rich cultural heritage of each location is explored to understand the forces that have shaped these societies. The course thus invites students to reflect upon the conflicting demands on society and environment.

Status

The KSAC programme expected to resume in 2016, after a two year hiatus.
