This project reviewed the current management structure and functions of the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve Trust and explored potential means and changes required to ensure its survival as a robust institution facilitating a long term and sustainable use of resources in this biodiversity hot spot.

Objectives

The objective of the project was to determine gaps in the current functioning and suggest means to strengthen the structure and ensure long-term funding for the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve Trust.

Status
  • A final report was complied with the strengths and weaknesses of the present structure and functioning of the Trust and suggested ways to take informed and strategic decisions on its long-term funding and survival as a robust institution.
  • This report was presented during a workshop held with all the different stakeholders, including Trust functionaries, Forest Department, Fisheries Department, NGOs and researchers.
