Summary

This project aimed to change children’s behaviour towards water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) through a series of awareness programs and improving access to drinking water and sanitation facilities at schools. The project was done in two phases.

Objectives

In the first phase of the project, the objective was to 

1. set up rainwater harvesting structures and repair and construct toilets for a number of schools in the Krishnagiri District.

 2. Undertake awareness-raising and capacity building programmes to ensure increased utilisation of water and sanitation (WATSAN) infrastructure in the project area. 

In the second phase, the project aimed to 

1. sensitise school children through awareness training on WASH.

Status

Completed 

• As part of the awareness raising programmes, FERAL conducted two 'Global Awareness Days' (as observed by the United Nations) on hygiene and sanitation. 

• Rainwater harvesting structures were set up in schools in Krishnagiri, and existing toilets were repaired and new ones constructed.
