Photo Documentation of Wildlife and Habitats in the Point Calimere Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary

Photo documentation of the biodiversity of an area can help develop interest in the rich biological resources of an area and raise awareness on the need to conserve such areas. This effort was undertaken for and with the support of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, as a follow-up on the earlier study that studied the fauna and flora of the Point Calimere Wildlife Sanctuary.

Field Studies for the Conservation and Management of Point Calimere Complex

The Tamil Nadu Forest Department funded a short-term study of the Point Calimere Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary, near Nagapattinam to prepare a land cover map of the sanctuary area and its surroundings using available satellite imagery, investigate habitat usage by birds, and identify changes vegetation communities, with specific reference to the invasive Prosopis juliflora.
